Preservation New Jersey and the New Jersey Jazz Society are pleased to welcome jazz pianist Ben Rosenblum to the renowned acoustic space of the 1867 Sanctuary.

Ben Rosenblum (www.benrosenblummusic.com) is a jazz pianist, accordionist and composer based in New York City, and a recent graduate of the joint program between Columbia University and the Juilliard School of Music. His work has garnered numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award in 2010, the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Original Song in 2010, and the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Arrangement in 2011. He was commissioned by the XIBUS World Orchestra in Boston to write a piece for full orchestra, chorus, and jazz band, which culminated in a performance at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall on April 14, 2012, and he has worked with Grammy nominated singer Ryland Angel on a number of compositional projects, including the project Unspoken, which premiered at the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis in November 2016. Ben was a finalist at the 2015 American Jazz Pianist Competition in Melbourne, Florida, and at the 2016 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida. Ben’s debut album as a leader, entitled Instead, was released on March 1st, 2017 on OneTrickDog Records, and features jazz legends Curtis Lundy on bass and Billy Hart on drums. This album has received numerous favorable reviews, including 4/5 stars from Downbeat Magazine in the April 2017 issue: The music is thoughtful. … Rosenblum has the chops to shoot off a few fireworks, … but that doesn’t seem to be a priority when covering sacred material. Ben has played with the Bachiana Brasileira Orchestra at Lincoln Center (conducted by Joao Carlos Martins and featuring Dave Brubeck), as well as in Delhi, India, and at the Masten Jazz Festival (Buffalo), Richmond Jazz Festival (Richmond), Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival (Maryland), Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival (Manhattan), DUMBO Arts Festival (Brooklyn), Musikfest (Bethlehem, PA) and Music Mountain Festival (Connecticut). He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the Allen Room at Lincoln Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Webster Hall, Symphony Space, The Blue Note and a host of other locations throughout the northeast. Ben has worked extensively with such jazz luminaries as Curtis Lundy, Neal Smith, Winard Harper, Wayne Escoffery and Deborah Davis, and he has shared the stage with Bobby Watson, Houston Person, Jerry Dodgion, Warren Wolf, Eliot Zigmund, Clarence Penn, Craig Handy, Stacy Dillard, Chris Washburne, Dave Stryker, James Cammack, Ameen Saleem, Bob Nieske, Steve Nelson, Yasushi Nakamura, Essiet Essiet, TS Monk, Willie Williams, Patience Higgins, Josh Evans, Kenny Davis, Rogerio Boccato and many others. Ben had the privilege of performing alongside Wycliffe Gordon, Brian Lynch and Phil Woods as a member of the prestigious New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band, and he also works frequently with Boston-based singer Alida Rohr, as well as New York-based singer and composer Dev Avidon.

Ben is the founder of the Columbia Jazz House, a student-run jazz advocacy group at Columbia University that promotes jazz on campus through concerts, educational workshops and jam sessions. On December 28th, 2015, the Columbia Jazz House was featured in a New York Times article called “Melodies Night and Day in This Columbia Dorm.”

Tickets are $20 for General Admission, $15 for Friends of the Sanctuary, $15 for New Jersey Jazz Society Members, and only $5 for school and college students with ID. Tickets may be purchased online below by selecting your ticket option and clicking on the “Buy Now” link to use credit or debit card or your PayPal account. If ordering two or three ticket types, each type must be purchased in a separate order. You will receive an email confirmation of each purchase. Online tickets will be held at the box office; please print and bring your receipt in case it is needed to confirm your purchase.

GROUP RATES are now available! Choose the Group ticket option and each ticket will have a $5 discount from the General Admission price (same as the Friends of the 1867 Sanctuary ticket price)! Group rate tickets must be purchased in quantities of 10 or more within a single purchase. Group rates apply only to advance online sales and cannot be purchased at the box office prior to the concert. Groups must present themselves at the box office at the same time. For group orders of fewer than 10 people, the full General Admission rate (less the amount prepaid) may be required at the box office at the time of admission. Group rates do not apply to Student prices.

The 1867 Sanctuary is air conditioned, and is wheelchair accessible using the ramp on the left side of the building.
