Dan Kassel
June 22, 2017 @ 8:00 pm
Preservation New Jersey is pleased to welcome Dan Kassel for a solo cello concert in the awesome acoustics of the 1867 Sanctuary! Click here for tickets!
Emotionally provocative and layered in symphonic warmth, Dan Kassel’s solo cello music brings this classical instrument to new heights. Using an acoustic cello, a Boss RC-50 looping station and minimal effects, Dan bridges the gaps between Klezmer and Irish folk, Indian classical and down-tempo electronic music, levity and suspense. His ability to use technology to loop and layer his instrument into expansive tapestries of sound is impressive, but the element that really stands out is the cello’s deep and moving resonance. With his third solo album Clockwork complete, his sound is more rich and nuanced than ever, and he delights in sharing his soulful compositions with those looking for something fresh and meaningful.
Dan’s classical training on the cello during childhood and his involvement with chamber ensembles and the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County ensured that music would be a significant part of his life. Determined to use the cello as a vehicle for the soulful harmonies and rhythms that dwell within him, Dan set to work on developing an unforgettable live performance with cello and looping station. His dedication and practice caught on, and Dan went on to perform countless performances at weddings, fundraisers, fine dining establishments and venues such as World Cafe Live and Union Transfer in Philadelphia. He’s garnered press attention from many independent music blogs, Philadelphia’s WXPN, NJ.com, and won an Honorable Mention in 2014’s International Songwriting Competition. His collaborations include forays into modern dance, electronica, symphonic rock, new age and North Indian classical, and he has performed extensively across Philadephia, New Jersey, New York and throughout the Southwest and Colorado. Dan is also an inspiring cello teacher who pushes his students to understand and practice the fundamentals of technique and theory while learning the value and freedom of improvisation. Travels through India and Nepal have shaped Dan’s musical and spiritual views, and he is overjoyed to have the opportunity to share the wonders of art and music in his beautiful hometown of Hopewell, NJ.
Audiences can expect to be wowed; he creates a scenery with his performance and blends together the best elements of Irish folk, classical and electronic to make something truly special. -Lisa Rich, NJ.com
Prepare yourself to be hypnotized by Dan Kassel, his cello and his loop station. -Erin Blewett, WXPN’s ‘The Key’
